Do I need a personal injury attorney?

While you are not legally required to hire an attorney, studies consistently show that injured claimants who retain legal counsel receive substantially higher settlements — even after attorney fees are deducted. Insurance companies employ experienced adjusters and defense lawyers whose job is to minimize what they pay you. An attorney understands the full scope of your damages (including future costs you may not have considered), knows how to gather and preserve evidence, handles all communications with the insurer, and can file a lawsuit if negotiations fail. For minor accidents with no injuries, you may not need representation. But for any claim involving significant medical treatment, lost wages, permanent injury, disputed liability, or multiple parties, hiring an attorney is almost always in your financial interest.
